Derek Chen has devoted himself to law for 30 years. As early as April 1994, he was awarded the "Qualification Certificate of a Lawyer". From September 1998 to June 2001, he went to graduate school of Zhongnan University of Economics and Law to continue his studies and obtained a master of law degree. In March 2004, he was awarded the Legal Professional Qualification Certificate for the needs of court trials. Before joining Hiways Law Firm, he successively served as the second judge of Shanghai Hongkou District People's Court, the chief of the secretary and section chief of the Political and Legal Committee of the Shanghai Hongkou District. Deputy Director of the Street Work Committee of the Standing Committee of the People's Congress of Hongkou District, Shanghai. During the work of the Criminal Trial and Civil Trial Divisions of the court, he has accumulated rich experience in trial practice. He has tried more than 100 cases per year, and none have been re-tried or re-sentenced. During the work of the Politics and Law Committee, he participated in coordinating many group contradictions and showed strong overall coordination ability. During the work of the district people's congress, he organized representatives of the people's congress to carry out centralized contact with the community activities, coordinated and promoted the handling of the suggestions of the representatives, and promoted the solution of urgent and worrying issues at the grassroots level. He has won the District Government Awards in 2008, 2009, 2010 (serving the World Expo), 2012, 2015, and 2016, and was awarded the District's Advanced Worker in Legal Publicity and Education in 2001-2005. Derek Chen masters the systematic logical thinking method and has strong language expression ability. In May 1999, he won the title of "Outstanding Debater" in the 12th "Fair Cup" debate contest of Central South University of Political Science and Law. In April 2005, he won the title of "Best Debater" in the debate contest of "Advanced Education Activities" in Hongkou District, Shanghai. He is good at summarizing and refining the perceptions in legal practice, and has published more than 30 theoretical research and practical analysis articles in newspapers such as the People’s Court, the Shanghai Rule of Law, the Shanghai Trial Practice, and the Shanghai People’s Congress Monthly.
